Motherhood: Humble Me with the Letter P

As soon as I read the Proverb and the prayer left my lips, I knew God was going to humble me. This was yesterday and today my two kids have puked four times so far. My three year-old woke up puking and I found him in his bed with more puke or should I say vomit? Either word is disgusting and remind me of the horrid smell that comes from digestion.

I changed my son to take the other two to school and I went to wake the baby. The entire hallway had the wretched smell, which I assumed came from the boys’ room. However, when I went to wake the baby, she was covered in her own puke, too. Oh, the humbling experience of cleaning up a child who has either pooped or puked. The two “P’s” humble me as a mother and continue to keep me humble.

As I changed their beds, washed their sheets and bathed them before 8 o’clock this morning, God reminded me of yesterday’s prayer: Keep me humble, O Lord. Yes, I am humbly bathing my nine month-old; picking the dried chicken bits out of her hair. I just happened to introduce soft chicken at dinner last night–big mistake.

Thank you Lord for the gift of motherhood and the humbling experiences I have to keep me on my knees praying for my children.

Parenting with Scripture: A Topical Guide for Teachable Moments

Speaking of  prayer, I want to share a prayer guide. I was reminded of this resource during a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meeting yesterday. It’s topical and it has teachable moments to share with your children. In other words, you have a life application you can share with your child. This book is called Parenting with Scripture , a resource you can use from birth and up. Amazon sells it, but better yet, you can check out the inside at the website.

Praying for our children is the best gift we can ever give them. I’m praying for God to be my children’s Jehovah Rapha right now. We all have a prayer concern. We can give this intangible gift to our children.Won’t you join me?

Do you recommend any additional prayer resources?
